Le Grand Moulin – wonderful Gîtes in Poursac, Charente.
We came to stay here and loved it so much we bought the whole place!
The gîtes are set in the mature, landscaped gardens of the old mill. The river runs through the bottom of the garden and feeds the mill stream. A lake is the centre piece of the garden and encourages wildlife. There are plenty of ornamental trees, shrubs and secret places to relax, read and fall asleep in.
There are a number of outside eating areas to share, or not, plus a barbecue of course.
The pool is the perfect place to enjoy the sunshine but we also provide bikes to ride, boules to play and croquet to wonder at. 2016 gave us 9 weeks of unbroken sunshine, the pool was very well used!
There are 2 gites on site. Larger or extended families may wish to book both at once but two separate families have plenty of space for privacy.
It’s a mile or so to Verteuil en Charente, a picturesque French town with a 12th Century chateau overlooking the river. Magnifique! Here you can try the local restaurants or café/wine bar, buy your croissants and enjoy the scenery.
There are many miles of quiet country lanes to walk or cycle to discover hidden villages and French rural goodies. French markets, supermarkets and all other amenities are a 10 minute drive away in Ruffec.
There are several areas of unfenced water on site and so we regret that the gîtes are not suitable for very small children. Older children MUST be supervised near the lake, millstream and river. Please contact us for more information if necessary.
Cyclists and motor cyclists welcome. We are close to the national cycle network.
The garden is perfect for bird watchers. We have a pair of kingfishers, nesting flycatchers, treecreepers and grey wagtails and a visiting cuckoo, nightingale and golden oriels. We are hoping to construct a hide in the old orchard.
No increase in rental prices for 2017

A message from Bill and Sarah
We love it here in Poursac, we were brought here by Escape To The Continent to look for a small holiday home but once we had stayed at Le Grand Moulin nothing else would do! We returned home to sell our cottage and our business so that we could live here year round and help others to enjoy a ‘get away from it all’ holiday in this beautiful area.
We see fields of sunflowers and wheat, stunning sunsets, amazing stars at night and hear birds and bees enjoying the great weather.
We are experienced in hospitality and have been fussy travellers ourselves so we are confident that if you choose to stay with us your precious holiday time will be well spent.
We are pleased to be able to offer you 20% off your travel arrangements if sailing with Brittany Ferries
