Pictures of our Gîtes and the surrounding countryside

The Gîte @ Le Grand Moulin – in Poursac, Charente.

A place to relax and unwind

The Gîte is set in the mature, landscaped gardens of the old mill. The river l’Argentor runs along the bottom of the garden and feeds the mill stream. A large pond in the centre of the garden encourages wildlife and the grounds of over three acres provide lots of space to relax and enjoy the countryside.

The Gîte offers a unique opportunity for couples, four adults sharing or a family with children to enjoy this region of the Charente. The pool and grounds are exclusive to you for the length of your stay.

There are 2 gîtes on site, but the second gîte is only available if you are already renting The Gîte – so larger or extended families/friends who are looking to holiday together additionally have the option to rent Gîte 2 enabling up to 8 people to holiday at Le Grand Moulin.

The large secluded pool (open May to September) and sun loungers, provide the perfect place to enjoy the sunshine.

We also provide bicycles, boules, badminton and outdoor table tennis.

There are a number of outside eating areas to use, plus a barbecue.

We understand that holiday time is precious, Le Grand Moulin never disappoints.

Our local village is Verteuil-sur-Charente, a picturesque French town with a 12th Century chateau overlooking the river. Here you can buy fresh bread and croissants from the boulangerie, try the local restaurants, cafés and wine bars, and experience the regular market in the town square for lots of wonderful local produce.

There are many miles of quiet country lanes to walk or cycle and discover hidden villages and the French countryside. Supermarkets and all other amenities are a 10 minute drive away in Ruffec.

Cyclists and motor cyclists welcome. We are close to the national cycle network.

The garden is perfect for nature and bird lovers. We have a pair of kingfishers, nesting flycatchers, treecreepers, redstarts, grey wagtails, black caps, golden oriels, heron and a visiting cuckoo and nightingale. We have also seen black and green woodpeckers. Currently we have a mother duck with her newly hatched ducklings living on the pond, sharing the space with the frogs spawned there.

In the garden there are red squirrels, dragonflies and damselflies, butterflies, hummingbird moths and you may possibly spot deer too.

Please note that the pond, millstream and river are unfenced, and so children MUST be supervised in these areas at all times. The pool is alarmed but not fenced. Please contact us for further information, if required.
