Le Grand Moulin – Wonderful Gîtes in Poursac, Charente.
We came to stay here and loved it so much we bought the whole place!
The gîtes are set in the mature, landscaped gardens of the old mill. The river runs through the bottom of the garden and feeds the mill stream. A lake is the centre piece of the garden and encourages wildlife. There are plenty of ornamental trees, shrubs and secret places to relax, read and fall asleep in.
There are a number of outside eating areas to share, or not, plus a barbecue of course.
The pool is the perfect place to enjoy the sunshine (open May to September) but we also provide bikes to ride, boules to play and croquet to wonder at. 2016 gave us 9 weeks of unbroken sunshine, the pool was very well used!
There are 2 gites on site. Larger or extended families may wish to book both at once but two separate families have plenty of space for privacy.
We understand that holiday time is precious, Le Grand Moulin never disappoints.
It’s a mile or so to Verteuil en Charente, a picturesque French town with a 12th Century chateau overlooking the river. Magnifique! Here you can try the local restaurants or café and wine bars, buy your croissants and enjoy the scenery.
There are many miles of quiet country lanes to walk or cycle to discover hidden villages and French rural goodies. French markets, supermarkets and all other amenities are a 10 minute drive away in Ruffec.
There are several areas of unfenced water on site and so we regret that the gîtes are not suitable for very small children. Older children MUST be supervised near the lake, millstream and river. Please contact us for more information if necessary.
Cyclists and motor cyclists welcome. We are close to the national cycle network.
The garden is perfect for bird watchers. We have a pair of kingfishers, nesting flycatchers, treecreepers, redstarts and grey wagtails and a visiting cuckoo and nightingale. Last year the golden oriels nested by the river and we watched as the five young birds fledged one morning. We have also seen black woodpeckers.
We are often visited by the red squirrels, assorted dragonflies, butterflies and deer.
